Well that was fun, the waiting is over and the first Pastel Co product has dropped. It was funny reading the last blog post back, "2 weeks from launch" turned to 6 weeks.
When all is said and done, that time was valuable for learning about just how long it takes to get from idea to physical product. The response has been overwhelming and with daily orders flying in, alongside the legends who are buying them in person. I am getting to know the staff at the Post Office pretty well.
I'd like to take the opportunity to reflect on the lessons learned over the past few months that have led to this point. And if you're thinking of setting something up yourself, these might be some key takeaways (or what not to dos). I'll also be making a video of the end to end process of creating a product.
Expect things that are out of your control to take a little longer than expected, manufacturers have larger customers who naturally get prioritised. Wrongly or rightly..
1. Speak to the people. I have met so many interesting people who are keen to add value, it's speaking to the locals in a town you're visiting, owners of independent shops, people at the gym who are like-minded to you, that person working next to you in the coffee shop. You never know what will come of it..
2. Don't compromise your values, people respond well to authenticity..
3. Be brave in promoting yourself and don't shy away from hard conversations. Social media promotion can feel uncomfortable and awkward but lean into it. I have also felt cheeky at times asking if someone would like to buy, or if a shop would be interested in a sample. So far, zero negative responses..
4. Keep in mind the long term goal, this week I have found myself watching the Shopify figures like a hawk. That's not what this is about, don't let sales dominate your life..
5. Community first, it's been so great involving others in the journey to build Pastel. I have taken everyone's thoughts and ideas onboard. Not a single one has been ignored..
6. The work starts when the excitement dies down. Right now is arguably easier because friends, family and close networks are keen to support (I love you all and am so thankful), the hard work lies in getting the word out beyond the inner circle..
7. Drink plenty of water, get outside for a walk whenever possible and make sure things are serious but fun.

What's coming up next? I will be launching more colours and styles that are more in line with females, I am fully aware that mostly blokes have bought my product so far and I will be bringing out fun bits that the ladies would prefer!
I'll also be investing in some technology to produce some fun content and marketing. There's only so much I can do with an iPhone 12, watch this space it should be very entertaining. As before, I'm keen to mention an independent business around Bath that I have enjoyed getting to know over the past month.
- Perk Up Coffee, I had the pleasure of meeting Sim today at his coffee trailer on the River Avon today. His coffee is top notch and he's created a space where people can sit, meet with and speak to strangers! Massive on community, he's also a great guy and a very keen runner. Follow him at @perkupcoffeebath on instagram, map located below. https://www.instagram.com/perkupcoffeebath/

That's all for now, I have a load of parcels to send out and packaging takes quite a bit of concentration.
Thanks again to all the legends that have purchased a hat!
Love ya all,
Bibs
